Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia continues her trailblazing journey with two nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards for her critically acclaimed film, All We Imagine As Light. The film has secured nominations for Best Director (Motion Picture) and Best Foreign Film, marking a significant moment for Indian cinema on the global stage.
Kapadia, who previously won the Grand Prix at Cannes 2024 for the same film, stands alongside esteemed directors like Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Sean Baker (Anora), and Edward Berger (Conclave).
All We Imagine As Light premiered at Cannes and later headlined the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024, drawing applause from Bollywood luminaries. With an international release and multiple accolades under its belt, the film is poised as a strong contender in the award circuit.
Meanwhile, Jacques Audiard’s bold musical Emilia Pérez, which tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who undergoes gender-affirming surgery to become a woman, leads the nominations for the 82nd Golden Globes with an impressive 10 nods. It edges out other major contenders such as the musical sensation Wicked, the papal thriller Conclave, and the post-war epic The Brutalist.
The Golden Globe nominations, announced on Monday morning by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut, will be celebrated during a televised ceremony on January 5, broadcast by CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
The Globes, no longer under the Hollywood Foreign Press Association after years of scandal and organizational overhaul, are in a rebuilding phase. However, this year’s star-studded roster of nominees has injected new energy into the awards. Notable nominees include Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Denzel Washington, Ariana Grande, Glen Powell, and Selena Gomez.
The young Donald Trump drama The Apprentice also earned nods for Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn. The president-elect referred to the movie as a “politically disgusting hatchet job” made by “human scum.”
