The decision to allow higher ticket prices for Pushpa 2 has drawn flak from moviegoers with many netizens taking to social media to question the decision. On Friday (November 29), the Telangana government granted permission for extra shows and increased ticket prices for the upcoming film “Pushpa 2: The Rule.” The film, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, is slated for release on December 5, 2024.

According to the order issued by Ravi Gupta, Special Chief Secretary of Telangana Home Department, a benefit show will be screened on December 4, 2024, across theatres in the State. The ticket price for this show will be hiked by ₹800. Meanwhile, two additional shows will be screened at 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on December 5.

The hike at single-screen theatres and multiplexes

From December 5 to December 8, single-screen theaters have been allowed to hike the ticket prices by ₹150, and multiplexes/IMAX to hike the prices by ₹200. From December 9 to December 16, single-screen theaters can increase the prices by ₹105, and multiplexes/IMAX can charge an additional ₹150. Finally, from December 17 to December 23, single-screen theaters are allowed to hike the prices by ₹20, and multiplexes/IMAX to charge an additional ₹50.

The order further said that GST will be applicable on all these prices.

Kushalkumar Thadem took to the platform X (formerly Twitter) and said, “@MythriOfficial what are this rates do you think all people can afford this kind of rates or you want to make people to boycott theatres and wait for OTT. Last month, Devara also did the same thing people boycotted theatres. So, don’t take people for granted and change the ticket rates.”

Another netizen tagged a private bank asking for a loan to book the tickets. “Would like to apply personal loan to buy Pushpa tickets for my family. Plz let me know what is the rate of interest?” wrote the user on X.

Many across the platform expressed their angst and said they would rather wait for the OTT release of the film rather than spend a hefty amount to watch it in theatres.
